Kenya's Ruto announces Kenya Kwanza-ODM coalition for 2027

President William Ruto has announced a formal coalition between the Kenya Kwanza and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) parties ahead of the 2027 General Election. The two parties have agreed to develop a joint manifesto through a ten-member team, consisting of five members from each side, to provide a common political platform for the next phase of national development.

As political maneuvering intensifies for the August 2027 election, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has announced plans to deliver a national address titled ‘Ruto at Four’ to review the administration’s four-year record. Gachagua has criticized the current government and suggested that political support for the President is shifting. Meanwhile, former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has speculated on a potential political reunion between Ruto and Gachagua, despite their previous fallout and Gachagua’s impeachment.

In regional politics, People’s Democratic Party leader Omingo Magara stated that consultations are underway to form a coalition aimed at unseating Kisii Governor Simba Arati in 2027. This emerging group includes former Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu and Senator Richard Onyonka, part of a broader movement targeting both the Governor and President Ruto.
