Aliff Rakib Becomes Malaysia's First ONE Championship Muay Thai World Champion

Malaysian Muay Thai athlete Aliff Rakib, aged 22, secured the country's inaugural ONE Championship world title by knocking out Thailand's Sam‑A Gaiyanghadao in the fifth round of the interim Strawweight bout at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok on 25 July 2026. The victory earned him the championship belt and a US$50,000 (approximately RM204,570) performance bonus.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim praised the achievement, noting it showcases the potential of Malaysian youth on a global stage and encourages others to pursue excellence.

The win marks a historic milestone for Malaysia in Muay Thai and the ONE promotion, with Rakib now recognized as the nation’s first world champion in the sport.
