Turkish authorities dismantle insurance fraud and illegal egg trade rings
Turkish law enforcement has dismantled two major organized crime networks following investigations into insurance fraud and illegal reproductive cell trading.
In an operation centered in Adana, authorities targeted a group that defrauded 17 insurance companies by staging 76 fake traffic accidents between 2022 and 2026. The syndicate reportedly used damaged vehicles to simulate new accidents and falsified reports to claim irregular compensation. Justice Minister Akın Gürlek announced that 88 suspects are facing legal proceedings, with 77 individuals detained during simultaneous raids.
Separately, an investigation initiated via a CİMER report uncovered an illegal egg trading ring operating across Turkey, Northern Cyprus, Albania, and Georgia. The network allegedly recruited women to sell their eggs to fertility clinics abroad. Investigators found that 41 women participated in 811 egg sales, with organizers purchasing eggs for 60 to 80 euros and reselling them to clinics for approximately 100 euros. This illicit trade generated an estimated 2 million euros in revenue. A coordinated operation across 14 provinces resulted in the detention of 39 suspects, including doctors, organizers, and donors.
