Aliko Dangote discusses succession and family business involvement

Billionaire Aliko Dangote has shared details regarding his family's succession planning during an investor engagement in Nairobi, Kenya. Speaking ahead of the planned listing of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, Dangote noted that his first grandson, an electrical engineer, intends to gain professional experience at a ‘big four’ accounting firm, such as KPMG or PwC, before joining the family conglomerate.

Dangote emphasized that the future of the Dangote Group does not rely on a male heir. He highlighted that his three daughters—Mariya, Halima, and Fatima—already hold executive roles across the group’s diverse interests, which include cement, sugar, fertilizer, manufacturing, and petroleum refining.

Regarding corporate strategy, Dangote explained that the group utilizes five-year planning cycles rather than ten-year goals to prevent complacency. He stated that these strategic targets are developed in collaboration with a core group of senior executives, including the Group CFO and various Group Vice Presidents.
