Dangote expands African industrial footprint via refinery IPO and Kenya project

Aliko Dangote is advancing a massive industrial expansion across Africa, centered on the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals IPO and new infrastructure projects. The refinery's Initial Public Offering, which opened on September 14 and closes on October 13, 2026, offers 4.1 billion shares at 525 naira each. To encourage widespread participation, the minimum investment is set at 10 shares (5,250 naira). The IPO has been certified as Sharia-compliant, and various digital platforms and agency banking networks, such as Moniepoint and Ethica, are facilitating access for retail investors. Additionally, the Aliko Dangote Foundation plans to partner with state governments to help two million vulnerable women, including widows, acquire shares.

Beyond the IPO, Dangote is expanding his footprint with a planned $17 billion to $20 billion refinery and petrochemical plant in Lamu, Kenya. Engineers India Ltd. has been hired under a $450 million contract to provide project management and engineering services for this facility, which is expected to be operational by 2031. Dangote also announced plans to invest over $10 billion in Africa's power sector and intends to list Dangote Fertiliser on the stock market in 2028, aiming to meet 40 percent of Africa's fertiliser demand.
