Alina Abreu to premiere ‘La Ciguapa’ ballet at Teatro Nacional

To celebrate 40 years of artistic career, dancer, teacher, and choreographer Alina Abreu will present the world premiere of her original ballet, ‘La Ciguapa’. The production is inspired by a prominent legend from Dominican folklore.

The performance will take place from November 13 to 15 at the Sala Carlos Piantini of the Teatro Nacional Eduardo Brito. The ballet aims to translate the mystical figure of the Ciguapa—known for her backward-facing feet—into the language of classical dance through a unique choreographic approach.

Laura Isabel Fernández will perform the lead role, accompanied by Alexander Duval as ‘El Pilonero’. The production features original music directed by Junior Basurto Lomba, theatrical direction by Waddys Jaquez, and scenography by Fidel López.
