Benjamin Day confesses to murder of Romanian student in UK Airbnb
Benjamin Day, a 20-year-old forensic science student, has confessed to the murder of 24-year-old Romanian national Maria Săceanu in a rented Airbnb property in Tividale, near Birmingham.
Prosecutors stated that Day meticulously prepared the room to resemble a ‘kill room’ inspired by the television series ‘Dexter’, covering surfaces with plastic sheeting and preparing cleaning supplies. Day lured Săceanu to the location using a disposable phone. During the attack, the victim was stabbed 78 times. Day reportedly attempted to dismember the body but stopped after injuring himself, subsequently calling emergency services and claiming he had been attacked by a fox.
Day initially claimed the setup was a tribute to the show for TikTok and that the killing was an act of self-defense. However, he later admitted to the crime. His sentencing is scheduled for December 4.
