Restoration work has commenced on the Alipaša Mosque, a prominent landmark in the center of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Scaffolding has been erected to begin the physical phase of the project.
The initiative was launched by the Vakufska direkcija at the request of the Islamic Community of Sarajevo and is being funded by the General Directorate of Foundations of the Republic of Türkiye. According to Huso Salihović, Director of the Vakufska direkcija, the project includes the internal and external renovation of the building, specifically targeting the dome, the exterior walls, and interior painting and decoration. The project also encompasses the restoration and arrangement of the harem and the surrounding grounds.
As the mosque is a declared national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina, all works will be carried out following conservation principles to preserve its authenticity. Muhamed-ef. Hafizović, the imam of the mosque, expressed hope that the completed restoration will enhance the site's ability to attract both local worshippers and international visitors.
