Alipurduar, West Bengal hit by magnitude 3.0 earthquake

A minor earthquake with a magnitude of 3.0 on the Richter scale was recorded in the Alipurduar district of West Bengal early this morning. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the tremor occurred at 6:56 AM.

The epicenter was located at latitude 26.445 N and longitude 89.560 E, at a depth of approximately 9 kilometers below the surface. Alipurduar is situated in the northern part of West Bengal, near the borders of Bhutan and Assam, in the Himalayan foothills.

There have been no reports of casualties or property damage. Experts noted that a 3.0 magnitude earthquake is considered light and typically results in only slight vibrations that may go unnoticed by some residents. Authorities continue to monitor the region due to its geological sensitivity.
