Alisher Usmanov legal team challenges EU sanctions

Legal representatives for Russian-Uzbek tycoon Alisher Usmanov have petitioned European Union institutions to review and lift sanctions imposed on him in 2022. Lawyers from Omnia Strategy LLP argue that the EU's decisions relied heavily on press reports that have since been retracted or corrected. They cite data showing over 3,235 articles were corrected and more than 1,300 were removed globally between 2022 and 2026, alongside 20 national court decisions in the EU that found certain allegations to be false or unsubstantiated.

Usmanov maintains long-standing ties to Italy, particularly in Sardinia, where he has provided significant social and cultural support, including a 500,000 euro donation during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Separately, regarding the United States, historian Mario Del Pero of SciencesPo has analyzed the political landscape ahead of the upcoming midterm elections. He notes that Donald Trump's proposal to distribute a $5,000 dividend to all American adults is likely a demagogic gesture aimed at addressing widespread economic discontent and low consumer confidence, rather than a feasible policy given the inflationary pressures and fiscal realities.
