Alison dos Santos nominated for World Athletics Athlete of the Year
Brazilian athlete Alison dos Santos, known as Piu, has been nominated for the World Athletics Athlete of the Year award following a historic 2026 season. The 400m hurdles world record holder achieved several major milestones this year, including setting a new world record of 45.80 seconds during the Diamond League in Zurich, surpassing Karsten Warholm’s previous mark.
In addition to his record-breaking performance, dos Santos secured his third Diamond League title and won the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate championship in Budapest. He is among ten male nominees for the award, competing alongside athletes such as Mondo Duplantis and Sebastian Sawe.
The selection process involves voting from four groups: fans, athletes, media professionals, and members of the World Athletics family. The three finalists for each category will be announced in November, with the official awards ceremony scheduled for November 29 in Monaco.
