Alison dos Santos sets new 400m hurdles world record

Brazilian athlete Alison dos Santos, also known as Piu, set a new world record in the 400m hurdles at the Diamond League in Zurich, Switzerland. He completed the race in 45.80 seconds, surpassing the previous record of 45.94 seconds set by Norway’s Karsten Warholm during the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

With this performance, dos Santos becomes one of only two athletes in history to finish the event in the 45-second range. He finished nearly one second ahead of Warholm, who took second place with 46.69 seconds. Nigerian athlete Ezequiel Nathaniel finished third (47.50 seconds), while fellow Brazilian Matheus Lima placed fourth (47.57 seconds).

This achievement follows a strong season for dos Santos, who previously recorded a time of 46.48 seconds at the Troféu Brasil in São Paulo. This marks his fourth Diamond League victory, following wins in Xiamen, Oslo, and Silesia.
