Alison Dos Santos wins 400m gold at South American Games

Brazilian athlete Alison Dos Santos has completed a remarkable season, transitioning from his signature 400m hurdles to the 400m flat. Earlier in the season, Dos Santos set a new world record in the 400m hurdles with a time of 45.80 seconds in Zurich. He also became the first man to run under 46 seconds in the event twice in his career, recording a 45.98 in Budapest.

At the South American Games in Santa Fe, Argentina, Dos Santos competed in the 400m flat, winning the gold medal with a time of 44.61 seconds. This performance set a new record for the Games and stands as the best all-time performance on Argentine soil. He finished ahead of Venezuela's Javier Gomez (45.48) and Chile's Martin Kouyoumdjan (45.99).

In other notable results from the Games, Chilean Martina Weil won the women's 400m in 50.45 seconds, breaking the long-standing record held by her mother, Ximena Restrepo.
