Aljustrel hosts Festicante festival celebrating mining choral heritage
The 9th edition of the Festicante festival is taking place in Aljustrel from the 25th to the 27th, celebrating the centenary of the mining industry workers' choral group (STIM). The event focuses on Cante Alentejano, a traditional form of collective singing recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The festival features a diverse program that blends tradition with contemporary creations. Highlights include the “100 Anos, 100 Vozes” performance, which brings together various local choral groups, and a debate titled “Cante Alentejano – Património Imaterial da Humanidade e os Novos Desafios.”
In addition to musical performances by various groups and DJs, the event includes guided tours of the Aljustrel Mining Park, a collective exhibition by the Núcleo de Artes Visuais de Aljustrel (NAVA), a market for local products and antiques, and a sound path project titled “10 Décadas, 10 Modas.” The festival is promoted by the Aljustrel Municipality with support from Turismo de Portugal and the Alentejo and Ribatejo Regional Tourism Entity.
