Aljustrel wildfire in Portugal 80% contained, roads reopened

A wildfire broke out on Saturday, 13 June 2026 near Corte Vicente Anes in the Aljustrel municipality of Beja district, Portugal. The fire was first alerted at 14:04 and spread across pasture, scrub and eucalyptus, but no homes were at risk.

More than 100 firefighters and civil‑protection personnel responded, with up to 114 operatives, 41‑43 vehicles and aerial support (initially seven aircraft, later reduced to three). Two staff were lightly injured – one from smoke inhalation and one with a sprained ankle. By the evening the blaze was about 80 % contained, allowing the closure of the EN2 segment between Aljustrel and Ervidel and two municipal roads to be lifted around 18:00. The local council urged residents to remain calm and noted the postponement of a municipal ceremony.

No civilian casualties or property damage were reported.
