Aljustrel's Feira do Campo highlights mining, renewable energy and local culture

Portugal's Aljustrel hosted the 24th Feira do Campo Alentejano, a three‑day fair aimed at showcasing the municipality's agricultural, mining and renewable‑energy potential. The opening ceremony on Friday was led by Environment and Energy Minister Maria da Graça Carvalho, while Mayor Fernando Ruas emphasized the event's role in revitalising the local economy and drawing back residents who had moved away.

The fair featured around two hundred exhibitors presenting traditional products, wine tastings, workshops and a programme of music and Alentejo folk singing. Parallel colloquiums addressed emerging diseases and the territory's transition from mining to sustainable energy. Investments highlighted included a €400 million mining project by Almina, a €9 million environmental‑recovery fund for former mine sites, and ongoing infrastructure upgrades such as a new road variant and irrigation developments.

Organisers expect a full house over the three days, positioning the fair as a key platform for local businesses, tourism operators and renewable‑energy innovators to attract national attention and stimulate further growth in the Baixo Alentejo region.
