Alkars conduct trial runs in Sinj ahead of 311th Sinjska Alka

On 28 August 2026, Alkars gathered on the Alkars track in Sinj for a series of trial runs (prove) that mark the start of intensive preparations for the 311th Sinjska Alka. Three races were held; Marko Vrca emerged as the day’s leader, scoring two "srides" and a total of eight points, followed by Ivo Zorica with seven points. A total of 83 points were recorded across the three races, with 46 successful hits on the target.

The prove are official preparation sessions for candidates who wish to compete in the main Alkars festivals – Bara, Čoja and the Sinjska Alka. They run for at least 15 days before the main events, allowing riders and horses to rehearse galloping, lance handling and precision targeting. This year’s prove began in mid‑July, typically in the evenings from 18:00, and are followed by large numbers of local residents and visitors who watch the trials from close proximity. The final festival schedule runs from 7 August (Bara) through 9 August 2026 (Sinjska Alka), with the Alka commencing at 16:30 on Sunday.
