Alket Rizai: Fugitive linked to prison murder and Anavyssos shooting
Greek authorities are conducting a nationwide manhunt for Alket Rizai, a convicted criminal who disappeared after a shooting incident in Anavyssos on the morning of Sunday, September 13. Rizai had previously been granted leave from prison but failed to return.
New video evidence has linked Rizai to the murder of inmate Antonis Papadatos at the Domokos prison on February 15, 2026. The footage reportedly places Rizai at the scene of the crime, where the victim was shot three times in the head in a high-security area that functioned as a camera blind spot. Forensic evidence, including blood traces on Rizai's shoes and gunpowder on his clothing, has been identified.
A prison guard is currently in custody after providing contradictory statements and appearing in footage interacting closely with Rizai shortly before the murder. While a Bulgarian inmate has been accused of being the physical perpetrator, investigators are treating the case as a targeted contract killing. Police are focusing their search on potential escape routes, including ports and airports, warning that Rizai is considered armed and dangerous.
