Alkyon Fruit expands storage capacity to meet rising Greek kiwifruit production

Alkyon Fruit, based in Kavala, Greece, is significantly expanding its cold-storage facilities to address a growing imbalance between rapid kiwifruit cultivation and the slow development of modern storage infrastructure. The company is adding approximately 5,000 tonnes of storage capacity to manage increasing production volumes while maintaining high quality standards.

Stavros Koutsomytis, quality assurance manager at Alkyon Fruit, stated that the expansion is a strategic investment intended to strengthen the company's presence in international markets. Greek kiwifruit production is expected to rise this year as orchards planted in previous years reach full maturity. While a slight shift toward smaller fruit sizes is anticipated in the Kavala area, quality characteristics are expected to remain high.
