All Blacks coaching staff claim proximity to Springboks level

Following a defeat against South Africa in Baltimore, New Zealand’s coaching staff expressed confidence that the All Blacks are closing the gap with the reigning world champions, the Springboks.

Assistant coach Neil Barnes noted that while South Africa remains the superior side, New Zealand is becoming increasingly competitive. Barnes attributed recent losses to a lack of luck in decisive moments and questioned specific refereeing decisions regarding scrum penalties. However, he highlighted significant improvements in the team’s set-piece play and remains optimistic about their prospects heading toward the 2027 World Cup in Australia.
