All Pakistan Goods Transport Union raises rates by 5 percent

The All Pakistan Goods Transport Union has announced a 5 percent increase in transport rates across the country in response to rising petroleum product prices. Malik Shahzad Awan, President of the union, condemned the frequent changes in fuel costs, noting that diesel and petrol prices have seen significant increases recently.

Awan stated that the daily fluctuation of fuel prices is unacceptable and disrupts the entire transport system. He noted that a nationwide strike had been postponed for 40 days based on government assurances, but that period is set to expire next week. If agreements are not implemented, transporters may initiate a countrywide strike.

Additionally, the Jamaat-e-Islami party has announced a march toward Islamabad on September 20 to protest the implementation of petroleum levies and demand a review of government policies.
