All Progressives Congress faces internal loyalty crises in Kogi and Ondo

Internal political friction is emerging within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria, specifically within Kogi and Ondo states.

In Kogi West, political actors and state government appointees are accused of practicing selective endorsement ahead of the 2027 general elections. While these individuals publicly support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, they are reportedly omitting Senator Sunday Steve Karimi from their campaign efforts. This strategy, described as “rice and beans” voting, encourages voters to split their ballots by supporting the party at the presidential and gubernatorial levels while abandoning the senatorial candidate.

Similarly, in Ondo State, questions of institutional discipline have been raised regarding the APC State Working Committee and appointees of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa. Allegations suggest that some party officials may be coordinating political activities for an opposition candidate seeking the Ondo South Senatorial ticket, potentially undermining the party’s official position and internal structure.
