All Saints' Day traditions face theft and environmental concerns
As All Saints' Day approaches, traditions in Poland and Slovenia focus on honoring the deceased, though different regional concerns have emerged.
In Poland, authorities note an increase in thefts at cemeteries, specifically targeting floral arrangements and candles. To prevent theft, recommendations include marking flowers with permanent markers or spray paint, signing bouquets to reduce resale value, securing arrangements with wire or string, or placing stones in vases to make them harder to move.
In Slovenia, the focus is on the environmental impact of traditional candle burning. Trgovine Jager, in collaboration with Vestina Maia, is promoting eco-friendly alternatives through a giveaway of solar-powered candles to encourage traditions that respect the environment while honoring loved ones.
