All-solid-state battery industrialization targeted for 2027–2030

China has outlined specific policy goals for the industrialization of all-solid-state batteries through its “15th Five-Year Plan.” Seven government departments, including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, aim to achieve large-scale practical application of these batteries by 2030. The plan also targets increasing the cycle life of lithium batteries to 15,000 cycles and reducing product defect rates to the parts-per-billion level.

Industry roadmaps suggest 2027–2028 will be a critical period for industrialization. CATL expects small-batch production by 2027, while BYD aims for demonstration installations around the same time. In Japan, Toyota plans to implement all-solid-state batteries in electric vehicles by 2027–2028, and Nissan aims for a 2028 launch. Honda is working toward deployment by 2030. In South Korea, Samsung SDI plans to begin mass production in the latter half of 2027, targeting applications in robotics and industrial sectors.
