All-Star Sumo to debut in Abu Dhabi in September 2026

The All-Star Sumo Competition is set to make its Middle East debut at the Space42 Arena in Abu Dhabi on September 26, 2026. This event marks the first time a professional sumo competition of this scale will be held in the United Arab Emirates.

Nine elite wrestlers from Japan, Mongolia, and Egypt will participate in a round-robin tournament consisting of 36 rapid-fire bouts. The lineup features high-level athletes, including Emperor’s Cup winner Ichi and the 250 kg competitor Hiroki. Other notable participants include Mongolian junior World Sumo Champion Mendee and Egyptian champion Ramy El-Gazar.

Hosted by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi in collaboration with USA Sumo and Space42 Arena, the event aims to introduce the region to Japanese sporting traditions. Spectators can expect traditional elements such as live taiko drumming, formal ring-entering processions, and pre-bout rituals.
