Allahabad High Court grants bail to union member in Noida protest cases

The Allahabad High Court has granted bail to Himanshu Thakur, a member of the workers' union ‘Mazdoor Bigul Dasta’, in connection with two First Information Reports (FIRs) stemming from industrial protests in Noida in April 2026.

The cases involved allegations of mob violence, stone-pelting, and damage to public and company property in Gautam Buddha Nagar. While one FIR implicated a mob of approximately 450 to 500 individuals, the court noted that no specific role was assigned to Thakur.

In one instance, Justice Krishan Pahal granted bail, noting that a similarly placed co-accused had already been released. In a second order, Justice Avnish Saxena granted bail despite state opposition regarding allegations of spreading hatred via social media, citing the lack of a specific attributed role. Thakur has been directed to cooperate with the judicial process and refrain from tampering with evidence.
