Allahabad High Court orders probe into alleged police loot and illegal detention in Unnao

The Allahabad High Court has ordered the Superintendent of Police in Unnao to conduct an inquiry into allegations of illegal detention and theft involving police personnel at the Hasanganj Police Station.

A criminal writ petition alleges that a petitioner was detained without prosecution from July 27 to July 30, 2026. The petitioner further claims that police personnel and another individual looted jewellery valued at ₹14 lakh, ₹35,000 in cash, two mobile phones, and approximately 15 cartridges.

A division bench consisting of Justice Rajnish Kumar and Justice Babita Rani directed the Superintendent of Police to examine and preserve CCTV footage from the Hasanganj Police Station for the relevant period. The court ordered that the footage and an inquiry report be produced before the court. The bench also noted that if any incriminating material is found, appropriate action must be taken against the erring personnel.
