Allambi Care faces strict conditions on child protection contract

The New South Wales government has imposed strict conditions on the contract of Newcastle-based charity Allambi Care, which provides services to vulnerable children and young people. The Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) has mandated that the charity must cooperate closely with the department, including submitting draft annual budgets for approval.

These measures follow the dismantling of a staff property investment scheme by the charity. The new requirements include strengthened obligations to manage conflicts of interest and mandatory training for staff and board members. NSW Minister for Families and Communities Kate Washington stated the government is adopting a ‘zero-tolerance approach’ to poor behaviour, noting that failure to adhere to these conditions will result in the contract being wound up.
