Allameh Tabataba'i University students protest tuition and hijab laws
Students at Allameh Tabataba'i University held a two-hour protest at the central campus, addressing a range of economic, social, and administrative grievances. Key issues cited by demonstrators included rising tuition fees for non-daily and older students, poor quality of food and dormitory services, and the enforcement of mandatory hijab laws.
The protest, which took place near the university cafeteria, involved approximately 40 participants, many of whom were student union representatives. The atmosphere became tense as demonstrators shouted slogans calling for the release of imprisoned students. This led to verbal confrontations between protesters and members of the Basij student organization.
Participants also voiced opposition to inflation and unemployment, using slogans such as “inflation, inflation, the scourge of the people” and “mandatory hijab for women.” While the gathering saw significant verbal friction and threats from security-affiliated groups, reports indicate that the tensions did not escalate into physical violence before the assembly dispersed.
