Allan dos Santos attacks Catholic Church leadership

Blogger Allan dos Santos, currently a fugitive from Brazilian justice residing in the United States, has launched a series of verbal attacks against the Catholic Church and its leadership. During a social media broadcast, dos Santos directed insults at Bishop Dom Vicente de Paula Ferreira, referring to him as a “beast” and using homophobic slurs and profanity. He extended these insults to the entire Brazilian hierarchy of bishops.

The controversy follows recent tensions between the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB) and political figures. Dos Santos echoed claims made by Senator Flávio Bolsonaro that the CNBB had spread “fake news” against his father, former President Jair Bolsonaro. Bishop Dom Vicente had previously issued a statement addressing past attacks on the CNBB by the former president.

In response to the insults, Jesuit priest Bruno Franguelli called for calm and reflection, describing the remarks as “strong and repulsive” and urging the Catholic community to respond with serenity rather than revolt.
