Allan Hancock College reports enrollment growth and new academic programs

Allan Hancock College has reported a 2% increase in enrollment for the 2026-27 school year, with over 11,300 students enrolled in credit and non-credit courses. Superintendent and President Kevin Walthers noted that the growth follows a period of decline during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The college is introducing several new initiatives this fall, including the “First Year Experience” cohort-based program, which saw higher-than-expected enrollment of nearly 400 students. Additionally, a new partnership with Cal Poly is launching its first business program, expanding upon an existing sociology program.

In its English department, the college is offering a new course titled “English 102 (Taylor’s Version).” Taught by Professor Janae Dimick, the class uses the writings and music of Taylor Swift to help students develop literary skills and examine various cultural influences.
