Allegations of Muslim Brotherhood ties emerge in Michigan Senate race

Republican nominee Mike Rogers and former President Donald Trump have accused Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed of having ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. El-Sayed has denied that he or his family has connections to the group.

The accusations stem from El-Sayed’s past political commentary and his involvement with various organizations. In 2011, El-Sayed wrote an article supporting the Egyptian uprising that led to the removal of President Hosni Mubarak, despite the Brotherhood being a banned political party at the time. Additionally, records indicate El-Sayed has been involved with organizations such as the Muslim American Society, having led a chapter, spoken at conventions, or supported fundraising efforts.

Declassified FBI reports and documents seized in previous federal investigations have linked several North American Islamic organizations—including the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), the Muslim Students' Association (MSA), the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), and the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR)—to the Muslim Brotherhood’s network in the United States.
