Allegations of public resource misuse reported in Paraguay and Colombia
In Paraguay, the Encarnación Municipal Officials Union has raised alarms regarding the alleged looting of the Municipality of Encarnación. Union representative Javier Sotelo reported that documents, including files and binders, are being removed from the municipal headquarters in vehicles. Additionally, there are allegations of irregular high-value payments to former officials, with some settlements reportedly exceeding G. 100 million, while current staff await unpaid salaries and benefits. The union has organized a protest for October 7 to demand explanations and prevent further document removal.
In Colombia, allegations of misuse of public assets have surfaced regarding the Special Engineer Brigade at the Tolemaida Military Fort. Retired Sergeant Alexander Chalá Sáenz has called for an investigation into Colonel Oswaldo Manuel Méndez Lara, alleging that official vehicles were used for private purposes. Specifically, one vehicle was reportedly kept in Bogotá for six months to serve the personal needs of the commander’s spouse. The complaint also cites the unauthorized use of another vehicle for transporting family members and requests an audit of the brigade’s REO Store to investigate potential financial irregularities.
