Allego says no major EV charging delays expected on French highways this summer

Allego, a leading European public EV‑charging network operator, released a modelling study that predicts modest use of charging points on France’s main motorways during the summer holiday period. The analysis expects the average occupation of fast‑charging stations to stay between 15 and 20 minutes per hour even at peak times, ruling out the feared long queues.

The study estimates that 6–7 % of French vacationers will travel by electric vehicle, a share that will be supplemented by drivers from northern Europe. On the A7, the La Coucourde station (nine ultra‑fast chargers) and the Sénas‑Ouest site (eight chargers) showed peak occupancies of about 20 minutes per hour in July 2025. On the A10, the Rouillé‑Pamproux station recorded similar figures. Allego attributes the manageable traffic to the timing of trips, noting that drivers from Paris and the north typically reach the Rhône valley around midday, coinciding with a natural pause for charging.

The operator advises motorists to keep battery charge around 80 % (charging beyond that lengthens session time), maintain a safety margin of range, and use real‑time apps to locate available stations and plan alternatives within 30 km.
