Allen Iverson reflects on Beşiktaş tenure and career impact
NBA legend Allen Iverson has reflected on his brief stint with the Turkish basketball club Beşiktaş in 2010, admitting that his ego and pride contributed to the end of his professional career.
Speaking on ‘The Underground Lounge’ podcast, Iverson stated that he was aware he was committing ‘professional suicide’ through his decisions. He noted a refusal to accept the need to prove himself again and expressed difficulty with coming off the bench.
Iverson also detailed a severe calf injury sustained while playing for Beşiktaş. He described the pain as so intense that it brought him to tears. While the club requested he undergo surgery in Istanbul, Iverson’s team insisted on returning to the United States for the procedure, leading to the conclusion of his time in Turkey despite having a year remaining on his contract.
