Allergies Threaten Seniors While Dogs Face Dementia: Age‑Related Health Risks

Allergies in older adults can be more severe because the immune system changes with age, leading to slower responses, stronger inflammation, and longer recovery. Medications for chronic conditions such as heart disease, diabetes or lung disorders can worsen allergic reactions, and symptoms like shortness of breath, skin rashes or dizziness are often mistaken for normal aging or other illnesses, delaying proper diagnosis and treatment.

Canine Cognitive Dysfunction (CCD), often called dog dementia, affects roughly one‑third of dogs aged 12 years and half of those aged 15 years. The disease progresses through early, middle and advanced stages, beginning with mild disorientation or sleep disturbances and advancing to pronounced confusion, loss of house‑training, altered social behavior and reduced mobility. Diagnosis relies on observing behavioral changes over months, as no single definitive test exists.
