Alpine livestock traditions and agricultural shows held in Germany and Switzerland
Traditional livestock seasonal transitions and agricultural showcases are taking place across Bavaria and Switzerland. In the Allgäu region of Germany, the Viehscheid festivals continue, including the small-scale event in Memhölz, which features 30 to 50 animals, and the large, historic event in Wertach, which draws thousands of visitors and features a market with up to 70 stalls.
In the Upper Palatinate, the 7th Bavarian State Livestock Show for beef cattle was held in Moosbach. The event featured 170 animals across 18 breeds. Bavarian Finance Minister Albert Füracker attended, emphasizing the importance of livestock farmers as ambassadors for agriculture.
In Switzerland, the traditional Alpabzug (alpine descent) is occurring in the Canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden. Farmers in Urnäsch are bringing cattle and goats down from high pastures to valleys for the winter, often wearing traditional costumes and performing folk songs.
