Allgäu region sees world record in Alpsee and new hiking trail plans
The Allgäu region in Germany is seeing significant developments in sports and tourism. In the Alpsee, German extreme swimmer Paul Bieber set a world record in the Ice Triathlon on March 1, 2026. He completed a course consisting of 250 meters of swimming in 4.4 degree Celsius water, 12.5 kilometers of cycling, and 2.5 kilometers of running in a time of 50 minutes and 49 seconds.
Tourism infrastructure is also expanding, with the Oberschwaben-Allgäu region planning the certification of eight premium hiking trails. Spanning approximately 70 kilometers, these trails, titled ‘Gletscherspuren’, are designed to showcase the region's geological history. The project, funded by municipal funds and 60 percent LEADER subsidies, is scheduled for a formal opening in September 2026.
Additionally, the Ofterschwanger Horn remains a prominent destination for families, offering accessible hiking via cable car and educational paths like the ‘Stuimändle Weg’.
