Allgäu Viehscheid 2026 dates announced

The schedule for the 2026 Viehscheid season in the Allgäu region has been announced. This traditional cattle drive involves approximately 30,000 animals, including cattle, sheep, goats, and horses, returning from more than 700 alpine pastures to the valleys.

If the summer season has been peaceful and accident-free, lead animals are decorated with elaborate floral wreaths and headpieces. The festivities attract thousands of spectators annually. While the traditional kickoff in Kranzegg has been canceled for 2026, numerous other dates are set for September and October.

Key dates include several events on Friday, September 11, such as in Bad Hindelang, Balderschwang, Oberstaufen, and Schöllang. Additional drives are scheduled for September 12 in Oberstdorf and Pfronten, with further celebrations continuing through September 19 in locations including Immenstadt, Kleinwalsertal, and Zell.
