Allgäu winter forecast predicts mid-October snowfall
Meteorologist Joachim Schug has provided a winter forecast for the Allgäu region. He predicts that temperatures will remain very warm until early October, with no snowfall expected even on the Nebelhorn.
Based on historical weather data from the last 20 years, Schug anticipates the first snowfall starting in mid-October, with a continuous snow cover likely forming in high-altitude areas by early November. However, he warns that the overall winter may be too warm and moist due to frequent west to southwest winds.
While a long, icy winter is not expected due to climate change and the projected Super El Niño, the frequent precipitation may help groundwater levels recover and increase natural snowfall in higher elevations. Meanwhile, the Oberstdorf Kleinwalsertal Bergbahnen have announced plans for an exceptionally early start to the season, despite rising ticket prices.
