Alliance Française Newcastle celebrates 75th anniversary

The Alliance Française Newcastle celebrated its 75th anniversary at Fort Scratchley, marking seven decades of promoting French language and culture in the Hunter region.

The event brought together teachers, expatriates, and French business representatives. Marie-Laure Vuaille-Barcan, president of the organization since 2018, emphasized the importance of intercultural dialogue.

Newcastle Lord Mayor Gavin Morris noted the historical and economic links between France and the region, citing the influence of French vines on the local wine industry and the presence of French companies in sectors such as public transport, defense, and renewable energy. French Deputy Consul-General Sami Bouakaze also attended, highlighting the human necessity of sharing culture and experiences.
