Ibrahim Traoré, President of Burkina Faso, has declined to provide specific details or timelines regarding the potential creation of a common currency for the Alliance of Sahel States (AES). While discussions regarding monetary sovereignty continue among the member nations—Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger—no official announcement has been made concerning a launch date, the name of a new currency, or specific financial mechanisms.

The three states currently continue to use the CFA franc. Authorities have dismissed unconfirmed social media rumors suggesting that banknotes have already been printed or that an imminent transition is underway.
