Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians weighs future coalition with SNS

The Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians (SVM), led by Balint Pastor, is facing internal scrutiny regarding its future political alliances in Serbia. While the party previously signaled a continued partnership with Aleksandar Vučić and the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), recent statements from SVM Presidium member Elvira Kovač suggest that a post-election coalition is not guaranteed. Kovač stated that the party is currently focusing on communicating with citizens across Vojvodina and will decide on future cooperation based on ‘election mathematics’ after the upcoming votes.

The Democratic Community of Vojvodina Hungarians (DZVM) has criticized this shift, questioning the credibility of the SVM due to its changing stance. Earlier in the year, SVM leadership had asserted they would not change their political alignment, but the current emphasis on independent electoral lists and undecided coalition status marks a departure from previous assurances.

In a separate campaign activity, the SVM delegation held a public forum at the Hungarian Cultural Center ‘Nepker’ in Subotica. During the event, Balint Pastor emphasized the importance of Hungarian unity and argued that only a dedicated Hungarian party can effectively represent the interests of the national minority in the Belgrade-based National Assembly.
