Allianz considers £5 billion acquisition of British AA

Allianz is reportedly considering the acquisition of the British breakdown service AA for approximately £5 billion (roughly €5.8 billion). According to reports from Sky News, the insurance giant is among a small group of interested parties engaged in early-stage discussions with AA's advisors.

Other potential bidders include the Swedish private equity firm EQT. The current owners of AA—investment firms Towerbrook Capital Partners, Warburg Pincus, and Stonepeak—are reportedly considering a dual strategy that includes either a sale or an initial public offering (IPO) on the London Stock Exchange.

Founded in 1905, AA serves over 16 million customers and operates a fleet of approximately 2,700 vehicles. For Allianz, the acquisition would bolster its Allianz Partners division, which provides global mobility and breakdown solutions. This move follows recent expansion efforts by Allianz, including the acquisition of HSBC Life Singapore.
