Allianz cuts board to eight members as CEO Günther Thallinger departs

Allianz SE announced that Dr. Günther Thallinger, 54, will leave the executive board at the end of the year. The insurer will reduce its board size from nine to eight members, consolidating Thallinger’s responsibilities among existing directors.

Andreas Wimmer will take over the Asset Management and US Life Insurance businesses and will also assume responsibility for Allianz Investment Management SE. Tomas Kunzmann will add Global Health and sustainability (ESG) duties to his portfolio for the Asia‑Pacific region, including India. The board will also lose Klaus‑Peter Röhler, who is retiring at the statutory age limit.

These changes are part of a broader reshuffle that follows earlier departures and aim to streamline governance at the German‑based insurer while maintaining coverage of its global insurance and investment operations.
