Global household wealth hits record 268.4 trillion euros in 2025

According to the Allianz Global Wealth Report 2026, global household financial wealth reached a record high of 268.4 trillion euros in 2025, representing an 8.6 percent increase. This growth was primarily driven by capital market gains, which accounted for approximately 80 percent of the new wealth. Conversely, new household savings fell by 5.4 percent to 4.1 trillion euros.

Regional trends show significant variation. North American households saw a 21 percent real increase in financial assets since 2019, while China experienced a 70 percent increase. In contrast, Western Europe saw a real increase of only 0.5 percent. In Spain, financial assets grew by 9.6 percent to 3.4 trillion euros, with securities increasing by 15.5 percent and now making up 50.2 percent of total financial assets.

In Germany, gross financial wealth rose 4.9 percent to 9.9 trillion euros. Notably, securities holdings reached 37.1 percent of financial wealth, surpassing bank account holdings for the first time. In Austria, financial wealth rose 5 percent to 968.6 billion euros, with securities reaching a record 46.2 percent share of portfolios.

Despite the nominal growth, the report highlights deep inequality, noting that the wealthiest 10 percent of the population holds 85.4 percent of global net financial assets. The rise of artificial intelligence and market volatility are identified as key factors shaping future wealth distribution.
