Allied Health Professions Day recognizes healthcare contributions

Allied Health Professions Day, held annually on October 14, serves to recognize the diverse professionals supporting community wellbeing and healthcare access. This year’s theme, ‘Allied health: For everyone, everywhere’, emphasizes the necessity of equitable healthcare access regardless of location or circumstance.

In celebration of the day, Northern Health hosted its 2026 Allied Health Excellence Awards, honoring individuals and teams for their contributions to patient care, research, and leadership. Award recipients included Tahlia Turner and Anastasia Avramopoulos for the Early Career Award, Ellen Martyn for the Student Supervisor Award, and others recognized for clinical supervision and emerging leadership.

Optometry Australia also highlighted the critical role of optometrists within the broader health system. The organization advocates for increased collaboration between optometrists, GPs, and specialists to improve referral pathways and ensure patients receive timely interventions, thereby easing pressure on the wider healthcare infrastructure.
