Allied Peoples Movement accuses President Tinubu of abdicating power to a cabal

The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has accused Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of failing to provide effective leadership and allegedly abdicating his duties to a cabal of family members, principal aides, and other unelected individuals.

In statements released by National Publicity Secretary Abubakar Yusuf, the party criticized the administration for being disconnected from the citizenry and failing to address critical security and economic challenges, including terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping. The APM also expressed concern over the economic impact of fuel subsidy removal, tax measures, and rising national debt, noting the departure of multinational companies and increased migration.

The party further criticized the President’s absence from major international forums, specifically the United Nations General Assembly, arguing that such absences hinder Nigeria’s ability to advance its interests globally. While the Presidency stated that Tinubu is on annual leave and has mandated Vice-President Kashim Shettima to lead the delegation to the UNGA, the APM maintains this reflects a broader leadership crisis.

Additionally, the APM has called for Tinubu to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race and instead support its candidate, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.
