Allumiere tragedy: Two vendors die from suspected carbon monoxide poisoning

Two street food vendors, 36-year-old Francesco Di Fazio and 15-year-old Gabriele Tullio, were found dead inside a food stall in Allumiere, Italy, during preparations for the Palio delle Contrade. Investigators suspect the deaths were caused by carbon monoxide poisoning.

The victims had reportedly spent the night inside the enclosed gazebo to save on accommodation costs. Preliminary findings suggest that a generator, used to power equipment like refrigerators and lights, was left running inside the structure, causing a lethal buildup of fumes while they slept.

The Prosecutor's Office of Civitavecchia has opened an investigation into double manslaughter. One individual, identified as the manager of the mobile snack bar 'Panineria Incontro 2.0', is currently under investigation. Authorities are examining the safety conditions of the vehicle, the generator's connection, and the workers' contractual status. Autopsies have been ordered to confirm the exact cause and timing of death.

The tragedy has caused widespread shock in the communities of Fondi and Lenola. In response to the incident, the Palio organizing committee suspended scheduled activities out of respect for the victims.
