Allye Energy launches battery-storage EV charger

Allye Energy has unveiled the Allye MEV (MAX for EV), a UK-built electric vehicle charging system that utilizes repurposed EV battery packs for energy storage. The system is designed to bypass grid capacity limitations, which can cause connection delays of up to 15 years for some businesses.

By storing energy from existing electricity supplies and releasing it at higher rates, the MEV can deliver up to 400kW of charging power to two vehicles simultaneously, even when connected to a low-capacity 16A supply. The product line includes two models: the MEV200, featuring 155kWh of storage, and the MEV300, offering 232kWh.

The technology uses PackFlex to allow battery packs of varying sizes, ages, and chemistries to operate together. Manufactured in the UK with 95% British-sourced components, the units are estimated to avoid 15 to 24 tonnes of CO2e per unit compared to new cells. Allye is offering the hardware through a charging-as-a-service model, with monthly payments starting at £1,900.
